My advice is to take a beak from it, and roll back to an earlier point in the game, like when some of the mechanics are still being tutorialized. I have a kiddo myself now, and while she’s a tad too young to get anything out of showing off games to, sharing some of my favorite moments with her is something I look forward too.

It ended up delivering one of the most fun gaming experiences I’ve ever had. I decided to give the game another go, this time tuning down the difficulty, and nabbing those darn goggles.

I thought I would just watch the story bits on YouTube, but it wasn’t the same. I had also started on a higher then wanted difficulty setting, and there was no way to change it mid game. The game felt nigh unplayable, was frustrating, and I ended up rage quitting at psychomanits when I realized I had neglected to pick up the infrared goggles earlier in the game.
#Shadow of the colossus ps2 controls series#
I was late to the series and had become accustomed to modern control schemes. I ran into a similar issue when I played through Metal Gear Solid for the first time. Please, somebody, anybody, help me save my sanity and figure out why this game just isn't "clicking" for me like it used to. It feels like every failure comes from the fact that the controller is literally telling my character to do the opposite of what I want him to do. And I'm a huge Dark Souls / Bloodborne fanatic, so I can tolerate frustration if it's fair, if failure is due to something on my end.īut this game doesn't feel like that. Does anyone have any suggestions at all to help? I must have been much more patient in my youth, because I don't remember getting nearly this angry with the game. I wanted to show my kids how cool the colossi were and how beautiful the world is, but all they've gotten to see is just how hotheaded their father is instead. You want to jump backwards from the arm toward the stomach? Well too fucking bad! You're jumping upwards into a piece of stone armor instead, knocking yourself down and falling again for the fiftieth fucking time! That'll teach you for thinking putting in a command will actually make your character do that command! Controlling just the goddamn horse is even a huge pain in the ass! And, of course, once I'm actually on a colossus, the camera becomes so fucking wonky that I can't tell where I am or what I'm moving toward. The controls are so sluggish, so unresponsive, so imprecise that my character never, ever, ever, ever, ever does what I want him to do.
